DONATE WOOLENS TO US ,THE TREMBLING UNKNOWN FACES WILL BE GRATEFUL

With the onset of winters, everyone wants to buy the trendiest woolens. Malls are explored, showrooms hunted, everything is done in order for new trends to be lived up to. Everyone wants to be at par with the latest fashion. Once you buy the perfect woolens, you return home only to find the wardrobe not to be big enough for all your clothes.

If you don’t have old woolens to spare or you wish to donate new woolens you may contribute us monetarily. A new sweater costs Rs.200=00 and we are making effort to provide sweaters to 600 rural children this winter.

Create some space for the new woolens. Let the old ones out. There are many unknown faces who tremble and lose their lives because someone didn’t bother to give them woolens.  Don’t be that someone. Be someone’s reason to be warm this winter. Be someone’s happiness this winter.

This winter, we at Ahambhumika aim to provide sweaters and other woolens to about 600 school going children. All the children (boys and girls) are young and between 4 to 12 years of age. Anyone who donates woolens will be updates with the photographs of the event. Help us achieve our dream by being a part of it. Nothing feels as good as being someone else’s reason to smile. Be that reason this winter.

If you don’t wish to give   old woolens and wish to donate new woolens you may do so.You may also contribute monetarily for woolens. A new sweater costs Rs.200=00 and we are making effort to provide sweaters to 600 rural children this winter.

Educating Rural Children: Real Empowerment Through Mehak

Educating Rural Children: Real Empowerment Through Mehak

“Act as if what you do makes a difference.  It does”.
~William James; Psychologist, Philosopher, Physician (1842 – 1910)

Donor-funded NGO Ahambhumika has been instrumental in providing basics of education to the deprived strata of rural poor in and around Bhopal. Currently, Ahambhumika imparts basic education (Mathematics, English, Hindi and Arts & Craft) to 120 children of daily-wage labour in the villages of Mahabadia and Bodakho through its rural education support centre, Mehak.

Volunteer-driven Mehak supports children under five years of age with basic education and day-scholars from  other schools with curricular area that require attention, every day between 4 and 6 pm.

Besides the evening classes, Mehak also takes up Art & Craft classes over the two-day weekend equipping rural children with skills that will enable them to earn a living. However, this requires a regular inflow of supplies in the form of craft material, books, stationery, a teacher/volunteer etc. Up until now the endeavour has been fuelled by individual contributions from the public as Ahambhumika is not an 80-G corporate funded venture yet.

Here is a quick glance of the outlay incurred by Ahambhumika to keep the activities at Mehak going for a month:

Mehak, our support centre of education for the rural children has been re-opened from 30th June 2013  in village Borda, Bhopal. Besides imparting basic  education of Hindi, Mathematics & English we have also introduced computer literacy in Mehak. The children are provided stationery and drawing materials by Ahambhumika. The parents of the children of Mehak works as daily wage labourer in brick kilns and  construction sites. The children above the age of 5 years have enrolled themselves in the government school  and they attend the support classes in Mehak after school hours regularly with enthusiasm. For the children under the age of  5 years Mehak serves as Pre-school.
We have two rooms for Mehak children, the outer portion of which is  yet to be plastered and inner as well as outer wall is to be painted as well. Support a Rural School -“When You Know Better, You Do Better.”

                                                              Support A Rural School

“When You Know Better, You Do Better.”

– Maya Angelou; American Author and Poet

Donor-funded and volunteer driven NGO Ahambhumika has been instrumental in providing basics of education to the lowest strata of rural poor in and around Bhopal. It has sensed the need among this denied section of society in Mahabadia and Bodakho, for knowledge of alphabets and numbers that will enable them to read, write and know if they received the right wages for their work; hygiene that will give them better health, clothes that protect their bodies and dignity and above all it has offered them hope of a better tomorrow, possibly holding out the promise of fitting into the mainstream social strata.

However, it is time Ahambhumika looked beyond stationary, books, footwear and the like which are regularly donated by charitable persons every month to keep the movement going. It is time the NGO also addressed issues of formal and regular learning through providers of the education to those who are keen and willing to learn. You would be surprised at the numbers of children who are eager to learn the formal subjects as we know them and see them as a rope to climb out of their miserable present.

For this we need educators who will volunteer to come from Bhopal city on a daily/weekly basis to impart training to the enthusiastic children. We at Ahambhumika know that for many of us, passion runs limited mileage and so to get honest work done on a consistent basis, these volunteers will have to be paid as they would had they taught at a school elsewhere.

Currently we undertake to impart education to the children for a period of 2 years and are seeking teachers who are passionate about this cause and can commit to teaching the underprivileged but bright students for this length of time. Being donor-funded a project, Ahambhumika will not be matching market rates on teacher salaries but is looking at a monthly payment of Rs. 10,000 per teacher., an amount we consider sufficient for our location and enough to fuel a person’s motivation at teaching.

The aforesaid project is ready to take wings in the forthcoming academic session commencing July 2013.
Needless to say the success of this program will depend on Ahambhumika’s capability of sourcing funds from donors and charitable persons. As is evident our endeavor will be to raise Rs. 120,000 per annum (i.e. 10,000 x 12 = Rs 120,000) towards 1 teacher or Rs. 10,000 a month to afford educating the rural have-nots. Ahambhumika is committed to supplying details of funds and sources to donors from time to time.

Plea For Funds For Hiring and Retaining A Teacher:

• Requesting a minimum donation of Rs. 5000 from charitable individuals.

• Donations can also be made for Rs. 10,000 or for the whole year for Rs. 120,000.

• Requests are also going out to those who live outside of India (NRIs) but are citizens of India.

• Ahambhumika will send the banking details and profile to you upon expression of your consent to donate.

Summer camp for 2nd year consecutively for tribal kids of Bodakho concluded

Friends, it was for the 2nd year in a row, Ahambhumika organised summer camp in village Bodakho,distt.Bhopal.This year the camp commenced from 09.4.13 and ended on 14.04.13.The camp was oragnised in a Primary school of village Bodakho and besides Bodakho the children of the neighbouring villages namely Pilitalai and Dholiumar too joined the camp.During 6 days camp the rural school children were imparted edcuation of Computer,Art and Craft and Origamy.
Ahambhumika was fortunate enough again this time to have 4 committed volunteers.Shri Chandru Malkani from Mumbai and 3 others from Bhopal, who are the students of National Institute of Design, Ahemdabad. These NID students were  in Bhopal due to summer vacation. The name of the NID students who volunteered  during camp was Kokila Bhattacharya,Shubham Singhavi and Shivani Goswami.
On last day of camp we had with us Shri Ashish Bhattacharya, Artist and Architect from Bhopal who taught the rural kids clay modelling and origamy and kept them engaged with fun filled art based activities.
Like previous year this year too there was the provision of lunch for the children and volunteers due to the support of generous people .We had plenty of colours , drawing copies due to support of the people who contributed for this camp.
The 4 rural women who cooked delicious food during camp were paid wages which was supported by  a generous   person.
This year there was a  section  imparting the training  of embroidery work for the rural women and girls. And we found the women and girls very enthusiastic. They engrossed in doing embroidery work whole day during camp. The embroidery hoops and threads too was supported by the our supporters.
The children spent whole day learning computer and Art and Craft from enthusiastic volunteers.
Like previous year, this year too McAfee,an Intel company from Mumbai supported us with Tshirts for the children and volunteers. We are obliged to all for the support.
Below are the few pictures of the summer camp.
